A Dusty Rose Wedding at Day Block Event Center

Goodness. Where do I even begin? Jess and Shawn’s dusty rose wedding at Day Block Event Center was one I wish I could relive all over again! The couple got ready at the Hewing Hotel which was significant because that is actually where the couple had their first date! Ever since their first date, they have been inseparable. What’s funny is that though the couple met online, they actually lived in the same apartment building! Jess’ pup, Benny, even tried to steal Shawn’s takeout in the elevator once ha!

I was obsessing over Jess’ details! Her red bottom shoes, this totally unique and fun earrings and of course the gorgeous rings. Jess’ mom and Shawn’s mom gifted Jess with this beautiful diamond bracelet to wear on her wedding day.

Shawn and his guys enjoyed watching some Office before the first look. Gotta love some Michael Scott before you get married, right? Benny got ready in the hotel room with the gals. He is such a fun and loving dog. He could definitely sense some big things were happening this day though because he just got up and laid right on his mama’s dress! We did Jess and Shawn’s first look on the rooftop of the Hewing Hotel, followed by Jess’ first look with her dad right before the rain started coming down.  We took Benny outside for a few portraits with his parents before he went on puppy vacay! Benny even joined us for their engagement session last summer! Take a peek at it here.

Because of the rain, we had to alter our plans a bit and do some portraits inside the Hewing Hotel, but it honestly worked out for the better. We did a few photos at the bar where Jess and Shawn had their first date and then did a few snuggled up on this leather couch. How cute are these two? Jess incorporated “something old” by having a piece of her Mom’s wedding dress wrapped around her bouquet. We headed to Day Block Event Center which is right above Day Block Brewery in downtown Minneapolis. I LOVED how the exposed brick was similar to the brick at the Hewing. It tied their day together so nicely! Also, how beautiful is this stunning arch created by Ashley Skeie Events?! It was the perfect backdrop not only for the ceremony, but also for family formals and wedding party photos. Shawn’s nephew was absolutely adorable with his dinosaur toys! He had a big duty that day also being their ring bearer.

Shawn’s friend officiated the ceremony and added tons of humor and stories about the couple! We all discovered that Shawn LOVEEESSSS chicken sandwiches from Kwik Trip. Who knew? So many of the toasts mentioned Shawn’s great cooking skills. What was so neat was Shawn actually made these cute little strawberry jams for all of the guests! We snuck out for a few “Just Married” portraits after dinner, but were greeted by more rain showers once we made it to the rooftop of Day Block! Jess and Shawn truly didn’t mind though and embraced it! That skyline is so special.
